In 2023, Æðµã´«Ã½’s Careers in Construction team proudly launched the inaugural Historically Black College and University (HBCU) Student Leadership program.

Now, in its second year, with two cohorts of students participating, this initiative - led by Student Chapter Advisory Board Chair Dr. Charner Rodgers and Vice Chair Mr. Myles Cardenas - provides HBCU students with expanded opportunities through year-round leadership development seminars and networking events.

Cohort 2 (2024-25)

Twenty students from 10 HBCUs, recommended by their instructors and peers from Cohort 1, participated in a 3-day, in-person program held in Washington, D.C., from September 25-27, 2024. This immersive experience focused on developing leadership skills, exploring career paths in residential construction, strengthening professional networks with industry leaders, Æðµã´«Ã½ staff, and peers, and touring an active residential construction site.

Cohort 1 (2023-24)

In the program’s first year, students and faculty participated in two multi-day programs at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C. in June and September.

Seventeen students from nine HBCUs also enjoyed an evening of learning and networking at Æðµã´«Ã½’s first-ever Black Builder and Mentor Mixer in February during the International Builders’ Show 2024 in Las Vegas.
